Welcome to Harvard Law School!
The Committee on Sports and Entertainment Law (CSEL) seeks to bring together students and faculty who are interested in the intersection of the sports and entertainment industries and the law. CSEL hopes to encourage academic discussion and provide professional opportunities to its members. CSEL brings speakers to campus, organizes conferences, maintains a database of alumni working in the field, and helps students obtain internships in these industries.
Past CSEL guest speakers have included lawyers that work at large law firms serving sports and entertainment clients, agents, CEOs and General Counsels of teams and studios, representatives from sports leagues, players associations, and talent unions, and professors. Last spring, CSEL hosted its first annual symposium on sports and the law, titled: “Resisting the Recession, Growth Opportunities for Sports in an Economic Downturn.” We had more than 20 executives from the sports industry participate, and over 100 people attended the Symposium.
Many former members of CSEL currently work in the sports and entertainment fields. Recently, CSEL has compiled a database of alumni working in the industries, and has helped connect students with internship opportunities with some of our alumni. Getting connected with CSEL alumni during 1L year has helped many students land coveted clinical internships with sports and entertainment organizations during their 2L and 3L years.
CSEL offers plenty of opportunities for 1Ls who are interested in learning more about the sports and entertainment industries. We would love to have your help in planning our events for the year and deciding which speakers to bring to campus. Additionally, CSEL will begin work this fall on the inaugural issue of the Harvard Journal of Sports and Entertainment Law, which will offer 1Ls a unique opportunity to play a large role in the selecting and editing of articles for a published journal.
Please don’t hesitate to contact any of us with questions and we look forward to meeting you in the Fall!
